The Pros and Pros of Wind Turbines

When I hear people discussing the demerits of wind turbines vis-a-vis climate change, I wonder if they have lost their collective marbles! It makes my blood curdle …are they absolute & *^&^ (pardon my French) to even discuss the disadvantages of wind turbines and its negative impact on climate change?

Global Warming Culprits – Cars or Cattle?

Once a week, if all of us skipped one meal of chicken and substituted it with veggies, what difference might it make to global warming?
Tons …do you know we would all be able to save so much carbon dioxide! Just like taking half a million autos off the roads!

If you’re concerned about the constantly rising price of vehicle fuel, but still want to use products that are all natural to power your car, you’ll definitely want to learn more about biofuels. You can find many of these fuels in the products that you use every day, For example, vehicle fuel sold in the European Union contains 5% biofuel by law.

Biofuels are defined as a solid, liquid, or gas fuel that is made from biological materials that have recently died. This makes them different from fossil fuels, which are produced from biological animals and plants that have died years ago.

Why Is Recycling So Important?

I suddenly realised that if I recycle 1 ton of plastic, it means that 2 people can live ‘free of carbon cost’ for one whole year i.e. I can save on a couple’s annual energy usage and carbon footprint.

Incidentally, that’s almost 2000 pounds of oil saved.

And the next time you open the garbage bin to toss away something, take a hard look at it – more than half of what you throw away can be recycled or re-used. This includes packaging – simple wrapping paper, covers, lids, etc.

The Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicle is expected to achieve city fuel economy of at least 230 miles per gallon, based on development testing using a draft EPA federal fuel economy methodology for labeling for plug-in electric vehicles.

The Volt, which is scheduled to start production in late 2010 as a 2011 model, is expected to travel up to 40 miles on electricity from a single battery charge and be able to extend its overall range to more than 300 miles with its flex fuel-powered engine-generator.

As you sit reading this post, how much are you contributing to global warming? TheLondon-based think-tank, the Climate Group has just released a report looking at the effect of computing on greenhouse gas
emissions.

The report claims that mobile phones, computers and their peripheral equipment accounted for CO2 emissions of 830 tonnes in 2007 – around 2% of the estimated total greenhouse gas emissions. Interestingly, this is about the same as aviation’s carbon emissions.

Emissions are likely to increase as more people get broadband. The report estimates that greenhouse gas emissions from computing will increase by 6% per annum until 2020.

How Can Bamboo Bikes Combat Global Warming And Help People In Africa?

Bamboo bikes aren’t a new idea. Made in 1906, an example of the American Bamboo Bike resides in Prague’s Technical Museum. At the time, an average bike weighed between 30 and 40 pounds. The bamboo frame was light but too flexible.

But sometimes an idea has to wait for its time to come. And now bamboo bike pioneer Craig Calfee is demonstrating how the wood can be used as a viable and eco-friendly alternative to metal in cycle construction.

How Bad Is Methane For Global Warming?

Shocking fact – methane might be a bigger greenhouse villain than even CO2, or carbon dioxide!

Methane and methane emissions are, in fact, 20x times more dangerous than CO2 – traditionally painted black by environmentalists.

Where is Methane Hidden and What IS It?

Fortunately, or unfortunately, methane and its emissions are not as commonly or as openly found as carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is found in abundance all over the planet, especially in heavily populated cities. It is a known enemy and we have now been able to combat it in many different ways.
