Global Warming Gives a Serious Warning

Global warming and climate change are already upon us. Global warming is a large issue with intensely intimate consequences at the personal and community level. What we need to recognize is that choices at the local and community level CAN make differences.


Most of the choices we make about how we choose to live are economic and political choices. These are choices about forms of consumption (humans have always been consumers). They are political choices in terms of energy production and transportation choice.

Who is Responsible For Residential Solid Waste Removal?

Residential solid waste, also called urban solid waste and municipal solid waste, is refuse that normally comes from households. It is either in solid or semisolid form. There are five general categories of solid waste that include:

1) Biodegradable waste: food waste and kitchen waste
2) Recyclable material: paper, glass, bottles, cans, metals, and certain plastics.
3) Stagnant waste: construction waste, dirt, rocks, and debris.
4) Assorted waste: waste clothing, waste plastics,etc.
5) Household hazardous waste: toxic waste such as paints, chemicals, light bulbs, spray cans, fertilizer and pesticide containers, batteries,etc.

Composting Food Waste in St. Paul


Macalester-Groveland neighborhood began a 3-month project to study collection methods for composting food waste. Residents will dispose of food waste at either a drop-off site, a recycling truck or in a trailer pulled by bicycle.
