Energy Crossroads: A burning need to change course

Product Description
As our global population and its appetite for energy rise drastically, resource depletion and global warming have become the most pressing issues facing humanity today.
Most experts agree that global peak oil production, when demand exceeds supply, will occur within the next 15 years and will drastically change the very fabric of our industrialized world.
As fossil fuels power every facet of the American economy, how can we avoid an energy crisis and a pos… More >>

My Analysis Of (basic) 3 and 4 bladed wind turbines

Here is my analysis of 3 and 4 bladed turbines. I sometimes heard of the question of 3 vs 4 blades on traditional windgenerators (HAWT) and even helicopters and airplane propellers …so the question is now what can be the difference of using 3 or 4 blades on a VAWT. This video is about what I currently thought up. With the 3 bladed turbine, the blades receive more uninterupted wind force as it rotates. At a certain angle the wind force will begin to get interrupted by another blade, and at another certain angle, the wind force is completely interrupted by that blade. The most basic fact is obvious, that the angular sepeartion of the 3 bladed system is 120 degrees and the angular sepeartion of the 4 bladed system is 90 degrees. When the blade is 90 degrees perpendicular (a right angle) to the wind max. wind force is upon the blade due to the large surface area. From this point, with the 3 bladed system the blade can rotate 60 degrees before being completely “blocked” by another blade. With the 4 bladed system, the angle is only 45 degrees. The only advantage of the 4 blade system that I can think of right now is that the blade perpendicular to the wind happens slightly more often per revolution with that system; providing another quick “pulse” of force and the corresponding pulse in rotational speed and torque of the turbine at this point. You might ask… What about a 2 bladed turbine system with the blades seperated by 180 degrees? Each blade will receive “more time in

The future of Solar Energy in Europe

Solar energy is not just for sunny countries. This is what the tiny Danish island of Aero is determined to prove by hosting the world’s largest solar thermal plant. And in Spain, a recent law requires all new apartment buildings to have solar panels. A sign that though still not the norm, solar energy is finding its way into Europe’s homes. from: Euronews, 28/03/2008
