Wood worm farms – how to collect the compost The trays function by the principle of migration. Start with the lowest tray: shredded paper, dry leaves, a pinch of sand, food scraps and worms. Spray with water, so it is moist, but not wet. Add food scraps weekly and make sure that the humidity level is maintained The second tray is added when the first one is completely full. Add the same “ingredients” in the second tray, and the worms will migrate upwards on their own, leaving their castings (compost) in the first tray. All that is need to be done is to collect the first tray. Now that it’s empty, you may place it at the top. This creates a cycle that is easy to maintain and easy to collect. For larger families, it is suggested to have up to five trays. To see or buy the wooden vermicomposters, visit our site: www.woodwormfarms.com

Which worms are “dirt” worms and which are “Red Wigglers” suitable for vermiculture and compost bins. In search of the real Red Wiggler for kitchen compost bins. Visit Fred’s Fine Fowl to see a drawing and directions as to how you can put together your own cheap compost bin. Worms will eat lots of kitchen scraps, including your news paper and cardboard.
