Here we can see all the components of a homemade solar water heater. It’s composed by a primary circuit and a secondary circuit. The primary circuit are composed by a solar panel made of a drawer of polyestirene sandwich. Inside this drawer I installed a spiral hosepipe. The darwer and the hosepipe were black matt painted to catch more energy from the sun. The darker the paint, the hotter the water. The water that we can see surrounding de tank flows by this spiral and is heated by the sun. The punp only works when the temperature is hight enough and it works 15 min. rests 30 min, in order to save electric energy. In the secondary circuit we have a expansion tank to protect the machine from hot water expansion, a tank from a old electric water heater (upsidedonw) is used to store 80 litres of drinking water at 45 º Celcius. The system works perfect from may to september, in Badajoz, in the south of Spain, and the rest of the year it helps the gas water heater.
