Product Description
In this New York Times bestseller, authors Singer and Avery present the compelling concept that global temperatures have been rising mostly or entirely because of a natural cycle. Using historic data from two millennia of recorded history combined with natural physical records, the authors argue that the 1,500 year solar-driven cycle that has always controlled the earth’s climate remains the driving force in the current warming trend…. 1. As a biologist and research scientist I have seen all sorts of quackery wrapped in the mantle of “scientific” fact but this book is hard to swallow. The total data package available totally contradicts the cherry picked data presented in this comic book rag. As humans are unfortunately the dominant species on planet earth we must also assume the responsibility of running the show and thus far we have been stupid, selfish, and shamefully brutal to our planet and our fellow creatures. Despite the political and monetary trickery of NASA and the arms making industry, mankind is probably one thousand years from being able to travel to other stars and galaxies with any hope of return passage. In the mean time perhaps we should take care of our spaceship Earth and stop destroying our only hope of survival. When we ask the question are we alone in the universe perhaps the real question should be why are we alone??? What intelligent life force capable of real space travel (and not NASA’s bogus definition) would want to set us loose on the galaxy after the mess we have made on Earth. It’s a dirty bird that soil’s his own nest and we are up to our belly button in our own excrement.

  2. “Preaching to the choir” has always been a metaphor for futility. However, the anarcho-capitalist libertarian fundamentalist corporation-bagman coalition seems only to sing refrains to the verses of their own preachers.

The good news is that mass extinctions are usually followed, every 1,500,000 years, by pulses of evolutionary diversification. Perhaps the successor to H. sapiens will evolve wisdom in addition to craftiness.

I’d suggest reading two books: “Out of Thin Air” by Peter Douglas and “Catastrophes and Lesser Calamities”, which examine climate change over geological eras. Let me suggest that 1500 years is NOT much of a margin for a geological climate cycle, making even the title of this book ludicrous. And google Cassandra (the sister of Hector & daughter of Priam). After reading chunks of this book in a bookstore, plus a dozen or so of these reviews, I understand well why Cassandra went crazy.

  3. Science has proven beyond any shadow of a doubt that humans are to blame for global warming. This book is junk.

  4. Another distorted hype book. I suppose that the 99.9999% of scientists whose job it is to conduct scientific weather analysis are just dumb. Those thousands of eyes overlooked the obvious while a few authors working for the CATO and Heritage foundations that are supported by big energy industry money have the unbiased truth. Yep all those people in Europe are stupid also while Rush Limbaugh and the other foaming at the mouth preachers to the village idiots have got it right.

I strongly recommend that you watch the movie ” An Inconvenient Truth”. The DVD version is at the video store/cable that includes an important update section. I believe that Global Warming is the most important issue the confronting mankind. This is not a political issue it is, as the movie states, a Moral issue. I have been reading scientific articles about Global Warming for over 10 years. The movie sums up all that I have read in a clear and powerful way and has added additional new information. Global Warming is not some abstract scientific theory but a fact supported by over 1,000 “peer reviewed” scientific papers. The only problem I see with the scientific papers is that the scientists tend to moderate the projected future impacts since many scientists have been fired and criticized by those in power whose supporters stand to lose money.

There are numerous sources that are available for further research but I would like to recommend two. Collapse by Jared diamond. This book discusses how historic civilizations have destroyed themselves in some cases with evidence clearly showing that they were doing so. This book’s hypothesis, taken with Global warming, leads me to believe that the Darfur crisis is something that will be repeated around the world of thousands times within the next 50 years. The second book I would like to recommend is “Global Warming, Global Threat” by Michael B. McElroy. This is a college level introductory course on Global Warming that explains the mechanics involved and some hints about the future impacts. This will provide you with a fundamental understanding of Global Warming. Both books are available in print and audio format.

Please watch the movie An Inconvenient Truth if you care about you Children and your grand children’s future. I am sorry if I seem push this on you but many will understand why once they have seen the movie.

Thank you for enduring my ranting

    Your Friend Ralph

PS. If you accept Global Warming as being true along with its destructive impacts then please make sure that others are also informed. There are many ways to inform others but I will suggest several here: urge that your friends and acquaintances watch the movie, buy the movie and lend it to your friends and acquaintances, forward this request via email, buy the movie and donate it to your public library.
