Waste King L-2600 Legend Series 1/2 HP Continuous Feed Operation Waste Disposer

I purchased this disposer when I discovered that my 25-year old Insinkerator had a problem. The chamber below the grinder was lined with plastic and water had found it’s way in and badly corroded the underlying metal. The corrosion product had expanded and almost closed off the outlet. So I bought a new one and changed brands but found similar construction in the Waste King so I imagine it will suffer a similar fate. One might think 25 years was long enough but I don’t use the disposer much so it was still mechanically sound – just badly corroded. Anyway the Waste King works so I should not complain too much. Just wish the designers would use common sense or the seller would warn the buyer about the potential corrosion problem..

My plumber was surprised at my purchase of Waste King waste disposer, telling me they are usually not reliable. So far, I have a few complains:
1. It’s noisy
2. It splashing back
3. It’s slow
I only hope it will last for a while…

I bought this disposal after reading all the good reviews on Amazon. When I received the item and took it out of the box I noticed that the plastic cover around the unit was bent. I installed it and turned on the water only to find water coming out the bottom of the unit just like the Badger 5 that I replaced. Apparently this unit was damaged so I had to go out and buy another Badger 5 from Home Depot that night. One thing that the Badger has that the Waste King doesn’t is the ability to manually unjam it buy using the wrench that comes with the Badger.

Please don’t buy this disposal, there is a reason it is such a bargain. I had no drain problems before installing it. Now the water won’t go down even if the disposal is completely clear. I called the company and they said it is not “broken” so they won’t replace it with another one. I would have to return it at my own expense and it’s heavy. So now I will have to keep a disposal that I hate. There is now always standing water in my sink. When I do run it the water will go down very slowly, but then it fills up again shortly thereafter. I have never had one before that did this.

OK I believe the Ge disposalls are/were built by waste king. I bought a GE unit 5 years ago. I just installed this one as a replacement knowing that it would be easy to install and good quality. During the install, I realized by GE unit just had a tripped breaker (little red button at the bottom) and once I cleared a few popcorn kernals it started working like a champ. I didnt really want to $$ pay to send the new one back so I installed anyway.
The price of this one with the 5 year in home warranty and lifetime corrosion warranty cannot be beat. My old GE was not corroded at all. I had an insinkerator in hand at the local home improvement store but was worried that the 5 unit would eventually crack as amazon reviewers are complaining about. Plus it only had a 1 year warranty.
It gets the job done so whats the problem? The insinkerators are made in USA. This waste king is made in China. My old GE was made in USA..On second though maybe I shouldnt get rid of the GE unit.
